CERT Basic Skills

Learn the basics of preparing yourself, your family, and your home for emergencies. You will gain skills and knowledge useful in any emergency. And you will learn how to get your neighbors together for even stronger preparedness.

This course is currently available as a hybrid online & in-person course. You can join and catch up any time before the in-person skills sessions which happen several times every year.

To take the online training visit the Cal OES education site. You will need to register. Then the classes are free. You will need to take the "Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Course - Hybrid Training" class, and one additional, short module, "Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Course - Hybrid Training Triage Module."

Find the online courses HERE.
Register for the in-person skills sessions HERE.

(If you have completed the National CERT class in another jurisdiction, you can register with WPV-CERT.)

FEMA Online Classes

FEMA offers some very useful classes through their online Independent Study Program (ISP). If you plan to become a Disaster Service Worker (more information on this is coming soon), these classes are highly recommended. They only take a few hours.

You will begin by registering on the FEMA site and getting a FEMA Student ID (SID). As you pass classes, please submit a copy of your certificates to WPV-CERT.
