WPV-CERT is building an all new curriculum, based on the best of classes given in the past, and adding some new things.

CERT Basic Training

Learn the basics of preparing yourself, your family, and your home for emergencies. You will gain skills and knowledge useful in any emergency. And you will learn how to get your neighbors together for even stronger preparedness.

This course is currently available as a hybrid online & in-person course - we started in November 2020, but you can join and catch up any time before the in-person training to be scheduled in early Spring 2021, https://wpv-cert-training-nov2020.eventbrite.com

(If you have completed the National CERT class in another jurisdiction, you can register with WPV-CERT.)

Order From Chaos

This class teaches the core of the Incident Command System (ICS) for CERTs. You will learn how to set up and run an Emergency Operations Center. The class takes two sessions: classwork, followed by a hands-on drill. CERT Basic Training is the only prerequisite.

WPV-Ready Classes

WPV-Ready works to reach all residents of our district, helping them reach a basic level of emergency preparedness. WPV-Ready gives classes, helps people make emergency plans, and helps them get appropriate supplies and equipment for emergencies. Although currently on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we look forward to providing First Aid and CPR with AED classes again in the future.

FEMA Online Classes

FEMA offers some very useful classes through their online Independent Study Program (ISP). If you plan to become a Disaster Service Worker (more information on this is coming soon), these classes are highly recommended. They only take a few hours.

You will begin by registering on the FEMA site and getting a FEMA Student ID (SID). As you pass classes, please submit a copy of your certificates to WPV-CERT.

American Red Cross (ARC) Classes

The American Red Cross is well known for their First Aid and CPR classes, but they do a lot more than that. You can take online classes in First Aid for Pets. And you can be trained to work in emergency shelters. Once our district has exhausted all we can do as CERTs, how can you help more? This is one great path.
